Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

This book wasn’t too high up on my reading list – but I get sent a lovely copy and seeing how many good reviews this book got on Goodreads already before it had even come out I had to pick it up! I was so excited to try reading something different than usual. With Halloween coming up who could ask for a book more appropriate to read? Filled with witched, demons and devils it’s honestly something everyone needs to read to get into the spooky season sprit.

Two sisters. One Murder. A quest for vengeances that will unleash Hell itself….

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria have been inseparable all their lives. As streghe – the witch who exist secretly among humans – they know the dangers of drawing attention, and work at their family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant, avoiding notice and persecution.

But one night, Vittoria doesn’t come home. And it’s not long before a distraught Emilia discovers the body of her beloved twin, desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia vows to find her sister’s killer and seek vengeance at any cost – even if it means calling upon a dark magic that has been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked – princes of Hell she has been warned against since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving a series of murders on the island, of which Vittoria is the latest victim.

But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

I loved the main character Emilia, she draws me into the book so easily making me want to follow her story and the character. I’ve never read a book by Kerri Maniscalco before but after reading this one I defiantly need to go back and read her other series based on Jack the Ripper while I wait for the second in this series!  It did take me a little bit of time to fit into the world of the story but as soon as you’ve read a couple of chapters and managed to get into it and practically flew through the rest of the book. The story did hook me from the start, sometimes books take a while to properly begin but this one the first page I knew the story had started. The talk of the food too! Make sure you eat whiles you read, it makes you hungry!

The emotion and the grief Emilia feels for her twin who was murdered was written so well and heartfelt. When she meets Wrath, well he’s gooood! I love his character, he is the type of guy you don’t know if you can trust or not. But of course it is understandable – he is a prince of Hell! But together they are so cute; the chemistry is written so well. Their relationship starts slow, as a love/hate relationship. The enemies, but do they become lovers?

The book is set in Italy, and I don’t speak a word of it but I love the Italian words which are thrown in there (I did have to google them to find out what they where, and some might come in useful for day to day life hahaha)

This book is a brilliant mix between mystery and fantasy which will keep you turning the page. All the twists along the way makes you second guessing what you think you might know.I can’t believe the book ended that way! The cliffhanger! I can’t believe I have to wait over a year for the next one. Can I not have it now please??
